Field Force Alexa is comprised of seven contingents representing the six nations of Weiland — Arkenland, Goldlight, Great Forest Land, Kharak, Sorminia and Yxtal — and the semi-autonomous Principality of Bisciaterre in Great Forest Land. The leaders of these contingents are shown here with the Field Force Alexa commander.

The Treaty of Memburg, signed just over two hundred years ago, provides that, if any nation of Weiland is threatened by an outside force, its ruler or governing body can issue a "call for aid". The Hearthlord of Kharak Kashul then announces formation of a military organization, called a field force, to provide assistance to the threatened nation. He also designates a field force commander from among his experienced dwarven military leaders. The various nations of Weiland then provide troops to the field force, based on their capabilities and the nature and location of the threat. Great Forest Land — always a heavy contributor to field forces — usually sends two separate contingents: the national contingent and another unit from Bisciaterre.

Field Force Alexa was assembled in respose to a call for aid from the National Assembly of Arkenland. Bourourqueinyi raiders have attacked the northern part of the country in force, and the Arkenland militia is being pressed hard. The Bourouqueinyi are a fierce and particularly vicious people from the southeastern part of the continent. They regularly send out large raiding parties to attack neighboring states, looting, destroying whatever they can't haul off, and gathering up captives to be sold into slavery in several countries on the mainland. That's a typical Bourouqueinyi on the left.

At present, the North Arkenland Militia Company is heavily engaged with the Bourouqueinyi near the towns of Drill and Galdastown in northern Arkenland. The raiders have already sacked Elterburg and several nearby villages. The South Arkenland Militia Company (less a small detachment detailed for service with Field Force Alexa) has taken up positions along the White River to keep the raiders out of the more populous southern half of the country, should they defeat or outmaneuver the North Arkenlanders.

Field Force Alexa has just finished assembling near Rummelsfeld, on the White River just east of the Arkenland/Kharak border, and is preparing to take the field. It's commanded by Lord Tiramo Blackiron, Governor of Kharak's Overlook Mountain District. Lord Blackiron's current plans are to have the Great Forest Land and Bisciaterre troops move up through the eastern part of Arkenland and try to take the raiders in the flank. The rest of the field force will be held as a mobile reserve along the White River line. That can change, though, if opportunities for offensive action develop.

The field force has a current strength of 215, with the possibility of some reinforcements to come. There are 12 people in the headquarters element, representing all of the national contingents. The other elements are:

In case you're wondering about the name of Field Force Alexa.... Traditionally the dwarf appointed to command a field force has the authority to give it a name, usually naming it in honor of a notable military personage in Weiland history. As you might expect, all previous field forces have been named after dwarves. In this case, though, Lord Blackiron did something different. He chose to name the field force after a notable figure from Arkenland's history, Captain Alexa Whallup. (Pictured at left ... as if you couldn't figure that out yourself.) Alexa Whallup commanded the North Arkenland Militia Company during the invasion by the Marvoians some eighty years ago. She was killed while leading the valiant and ultimately successful defense of Coystown, one of the most famous engagements in Weiland military history.
