At just about the same time that the Bourouqueinyi invaded Arkenland, the King of Arvoven, a small kingdom on the western coast of the continent, appointed a new Ambassador to Goldlight. Ambassador-Designate Groengraed headed for his new post, accompanied by his secretary and an escort detail from the Royal Regiment of Halberdiers. When they reached Fort Domrok, the Arvoveners learned of the invasion and the formation of Field Force Alexa. The temptation to join in one more good fight was too much for Groengraed, a tough old retired soldier, and he decided on a small detour to the White River and the field force's assembly point.

| Ozimandias Groengraed Ambassador-Designate to the Royal Court of Goldlight |
Tamintha Brokenstone Private Secretary to the Ambassador-Designate |
Ozimandias Groengraed retired several years ago as a colonel in the Royal Army of Arvoven. He puttered around doing typical retired-old-soldier things until tapped by King Ekloron as the new ambassador to Goldlight. The bureaucrats in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs weren't happy about the appointment. They considered him much too plain-spoken and undiplomatic for the post. The King replied that you needed to be plain-spoken and undiplomatic to deal successfully with the Goldlight elves. When Groengrad went to the Ministry to make arrangements to take up his new post, he informed the paper-shufflers that he would be taking his private secretary, Tamintha Brokenstone, along. They told him that was impossible; he told them he was going to do it, so it must be possible. They told him the embassy was already properly staffed; he told them he'd decide that when he got there. They told him she couldn't work in the embassy since she wasn't a Ministry employee; he said, "Hire her!" When the parchment-pushers finally told him, in no uncertain terms, that he simply couldn't take Tamintha along, he suggested they take their embassy and perform an anatomically impossible act with it, then explain to the King why he'd just resigned his appointment. The impossible suddenly became quite do-able. One of the bureaucrats later asked Ozimandias why he'd been so insistent that the dwarf girl accompany him. He growled: "Because she's d---ed cute and she feeds the dog!" Actually he wanted her with him because she'd worked for him for four years, handling all his personal affairs, and had proven herself remarkably organized and efficient. And, truth be told, he'd come to think of her as the granddaughter he always wished he had. She's also very loyal and quite adept with the small axe a good person to have watching your back. (The dog's name is Tuffle.)

| Sub-Lieutenant Serenis Laik |
Squad Sergeant Orleon Steelhand |
Ambassador-Designate Groengraed's escort detail consists of an officer and a squad from the Royal Regiment of Halberdiers. In that regiment, a squad consists of a squad sergeant, squad healer, and nine halberdiers. This one is led by grizzled old Squad Sergeant Orleon Steelhand. The officer placed in charge of the detail is a newly commissioned sub-lieutenant named Serenis Laik. Sub-Lieutenant Laik reported to her company three weeks ago, much to the displeasure of the company commander, a dedicated male chauvinist. He was disgusted at being saddled with a brand new, wet-behind-the-ears subaltern, especially a female one! What he doesn't know, because he never bothered having a conversation with his new subordinate and hasn't gotten around to checking her service record, is that the new arrival is a seasoned veteran. She had four years of exemplary service in the 11th Infantry before being commissioned, including three commendations for valor. The captain put her in charge of the detail mainly to get her out of his sight for a while. Little did he know that she and his halberdiers would end up as a part of Field Force Alexa.
The squad of halberdiers in the escort detail pretty accurately reflects the sub-racially mixed population of Arvoven, even including a Tastovar elf (Doshif Ti). They're armed with ornately-worked halberds of elvish steel, purchased two centuries ago from the now-defunct elven forge at Guie.
